President Trump participated in a naturalization ceremony in a video shown on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. Since taking office, the president has repeatedly targeted immigrants seeking to enter the U.S., imposing a ban on travel into the U.S. from Muslim-majority countries, lowering the cap on refugees and implementing a zero-tolerance policy that resulted in the separation of migrant families at the U.S. border with Mexico, among other actions. The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.
